CAMPBELL, Colin
No. 55013, Pilot Officer (Pilot), Colin Hamilton CAMPBELL
Aged 27
Born in Q2-1916 [Woolwich 1d:2356], son of Horace and Elizabeth Lilian CAMPBELL (née SMITH). He married Gladys Margueritte BOWMAN
in Q4-1940 in Newmarket. They were living at 15 King Edward VII Road, Newmarket. Perhaps they were participants at St Philip's Church, hence an Exning burial. |
His flying training had taken place at Kaufman County Airport, Terrell, Texas. He had previously been flying photo reconnaisance Spitfires. In Boulton Paul Defiant Target Tug 1 (DR927) of 691 squadron, he was airborne from RAF Roborough, Devon (Now Plymouth Airport) and lost control while target towing. They crashed at 11:15 hours on December 13th 1943, near Blarrick Anthony, Cornwall. Colin was killed, as was LAC T Bartle who was in the aircraft with him. |
